ST. LOUIS - Schlichter Bogard & Denton announces that it is investigating potential claims for injuries related to the use of a particular type of blood pressure medicine, called ACE inhibitors, during the first trimester of pregnancy. ACE inhibitors available in the United States include: captopril (Capoten), benazepril (Lotensin), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril) fosinopril (Monopril), ramipril (Altace), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), moexipril (Univasc), and trandolapril (Mavik).

The New England Journal of Medicine recently published a study that suggests that ACE inhibitors taken by women during the first trimester of pregnancy may cause serious birth defects, including heart and central nervous system defects, or even death to their infants. In fact, ACE inhibitors were shown to cause a two to four-fold increase in serious birth defects over other types of antihypertensive medicines.

If you or a loved one took an ACE inhibitor blood pressure medicine during the first trimester of pregnancy and had a child with birth defects or who died, contact the offices of Schlichter Bogard & Denton for a free case evaluation at 314-621-6115 or call toll free at 800-873-5297.
