Schlichter Bogard Files Data Privacy Lawsuits Against Health Insurers Related to Harvesting of Private Health Information

As has been reported, Schlichter Bogard has filed a series of class action lawsuits against major health insurers, alleging that the insurers used concealed tracking tools to capture users’ private health-related information, which was then shared with third parties.

The complaints are brought against four insurers: Humana, Cigna, Elevance Health, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Across the four lawsuits, plaintiffs represented by Schlichter Bogard allege that the companies embedded tracking technology inside their websites and patient portals, and then harvested and shared private health data with third parties, among other things.

As Schlichter Bogard Co-Managing Partner Andrew Schlichter stated to Insurance Newsnet:

“[The Plaintiffs] want to be sure that they have control over their personal information, especially as it relates to their most private health-related concerns and issues.”
